Text Box: The Department's Reserve Unit is an integral part of maintaining service across the county.  Dedicated individuals from all walks of life contribute their time on a volunteer basis, in a wide variety of activities to assist the department and the citizens of Maury County.  Whether it's patrol, special events at the Maury County Park, or taking a child shopping at Christmas, the Reserves can always be counted on to assist in whatever way possible.
 
Service and Participation:
The Maury County Reserve Deputies worked 13,076 hours in 2011, which is an decrease of 1,148 hours from 2010.  The estimated cost-savings to the county is $191,171, using the starting deputy rate $14.62.

The Reserve Deputies served 160 papers, made 319 arrests, and answered 1,645 calls. By comparison in 2010, the Reserve Deputies served 459 papers, made 430 arrests, and answered 1,778 calls.
In conjunction with the SROs, the Reserves hosted the 8th annual Maury County Sheriff's Rodeo.  The event was successful with profits totaling $7,000 for each organization.
      
The Reserves voted and chose to use their funds in this manner:
$ 3,300 to Shop with a Cop Program (in conjunction with SROs) helped 60 children purchase holiday gifts. The number of participating children decreased from 72 in 2010; however, the funding increased from $3,000. 
$ 1,600 to Thanksgiving Food Baskets (in conjunction with SROs) purchased and delivered 70 baskets to Maury County families. This is the same amount and same number of recipient families as in 2010.
$ 1,400 to purchase 125 coats for school children (K-12th grade). 
$ 1,000 to the Maury County Cowboy Up Program, which is an intervention program to prevent teenage suicide.
$ 1,000 to purchase 60 sets of Pocket Press Law Books for Reserve and Full-Time Officers.
$    500 to Disaster Relief for Alabama tornado victims and cleanup efforts.
$    250 to People Helping People, a local charity that assists low-income families and the elderly.
 
Budget Note: 
The Reserves applied for a foundation grant and received a generous $30,000 donation. The money was allocated to the community programs above and to purchase 30 pieces of body armor and 30 winter coats for the Reserve Officers for a total expenditure of $24,500.
The Reserve Association received a $1,200 donation for supplementing security at the Maury County Fair.
The 2011 Maury County Budget for the Reserve Association increased from $2,610 to $4,300.
 Personnel Information and Changes
Reserve Sergeant John Richardson received the Reserve of the Year Award for 2011.

In 2011, five Reserves left the Association.
